How much does AI automation cost for a small business?
There is no single price for AI automation, because the range of work is wide. A missed-call text-back and a multi-system data migration do not belong on the same price line. Here is what actually drives cost, and how to compare quotes fairly.
What drives the cost
- Scope. One automation, a connected set of workflows, or an ongoing partnership.
- Number of systems involved. Each tool that has to be connected adds integration and testing work.
- Data condition. Messy, duplicated or scattered data takes time to clean before it can be automated.
- Ongoing support. Monitoring, changes and new automations over time versus a single hand-off.
Three common shapes of engagement
- A single fix. One automation, usually live within about a week.
- A project. A migration, CRM setup or several connected workflows, with a timeline in the written quote.
- An ongoing partnership. A roadmap, regular check-ins and new automations as needs appear, instead of hiring an Ops Manager.
How to compare quotes
- Get the scope in writing, including what is not included.
- Ask who tests the work and what happens if something breaks later.
- Check whether the quote is fixed, hourly or open-ended.
- Ask what you own at the end: accounts, data, documentation.
